So... as my departure day nears, I find my Saab at the dealer awaiting a new "hose" for the a/c system... figured I could do it myself for less than the $600 they're charging me :-\ but I left my tools in Boston (right....). Went to the Newton store here today too and it was much better than the Chicago store (in that they had actual things to sell)... it was packed, which only goes to prove that folks in San Fran are truly out of touch :)
Tonight we're off to see the A's play the Brewers (Giants stadium is too cold for night games...)... the seats we got have "complimentary buffet" which is silly beyond words, but apparently that's baseball in the 90s. We're taking my brother's kid, so hopefully he'll be good (or alternatively the folks around us are really patient). [update: A's won, but the best part was that a foul ball headed our way around the third inning... my brother's wife Karen grabbed Graham and shielded him while the ball whizzed right into the seat where my brother was sitting... so @ his first ball game, Graham got a ball -- which he promptly stuck in his mouth ]
For some reason its been really sunny and warm here the whole time -- hardly any fog. My plan is to roll back the top and hit the road on Sunday, along old Hwy 50 into Nevada to visit my old stompin' grounds... well, where I got my first archaeology gig in Ely, NV. One of the country's great bars, The Midget is there and i plan to knock back a few "Kerrs" (aka Coors) there listenin' to "Walkin' The Floor Over You" and "What's New Pussycat?" on the juke.
From there... who knows? I managed to leave my great book on two-lane highways at my sisters and if she's anything like me she'll never get it to FedEx in time for me to use it... :)
I'm hoping to camp along the way, so if you have any great ideas, let me know... more tacky postcards to come to those of you at SIG
All the best...
Rich
